Heater size calculator
How much heat does your space need?
Enter your size, what it's covered with and your coldest night. We'll show the heat you need and how many TrailHeat heaters cover it.
Estimate based on the standard heat-loss formula: surface area × temperature difference × covering heat-loss value. Wind, gaps around doors and vents, and extreme cold snaps raise the heat you need; bubble-wrap insulation lowers it. One TrailHeat puts out about 5,100 BTU/hr on 1500W and about 2,700 BTU/hr on 800W.
One Heater, Every Cold Corner, All Year
Under 5 lbs with a carry handle: the greenhouse bench in January, the garage workbench when the glue won't set, the chick brooder in spring. 800W for mild nights, 1500W for hard cold, fan-only when summer gets stuffy. It only draws power while it's heating: about 13¢ an hour on 800W at 16¢ per kWh.

Your Plants Stay at 45°F While You Sleep
Frost doesn't wait for you to walk out and check. Push the probe into the soil beside your plants and set a number. The moment the reading dips below it, the ceramic plate is hot within seconds; once it climbs back over, the heater clicks off. You wake up to the display, not to frost.

For Anything That Can't Freeze
The well house, the pump house, the garage shelf with the paint and the water jugs. Set it to 40°F and it switches on whenever the room dips below that, then clicks off again. A PTC ceramic plate behind steel mesh means no glowing wire, no flame and no fuel can, so it can run with nobody there. Honest limit: it's dust-rated (IP20), not waterproof, so set it up off wet floors and away from drips.

Four growers, one heater
Greenhouse owners, coop keepers, seed starters and anyone with a space that can't freeze. If one of these sounds like you, TrailHeat was built for it.
"I lost a whole tray of seedlings to one cold night."
The forecast said 38°F. The bench got colder. TrailHeat's probe sits right in the tray, and the heater kicks on the moment it reads below your number.
"My chicks need steady heat, not a lamp I babysit."
Set it once. The thermostat turns the heat on when the night drops and off when the day warms up, so you're not unplugging it every morning.
"I don't trust a heater running while I sleep."
PTC ceramic element, no glowing coil, no flame, overheat protection built in. It only runs when the probe says your space needs it.
"My space cooks in summer and freezes in winter."
Heat for cold nights, fan-only mode for hot afternoons. One unit that earns its spot all year instead of going in a closet in April.
Four reasons, and that's the lot
One heater, one digital thermostat, and a probe you leave beside your plants.

From box to first frost
What setting it up looks like, start to finish.
Plug it in
Plug the thermostat controller into a wall outlet (or a 14-gauge or heavier cord), then plug the heater into the controller. Set it on a flat, dry spot with about a foot of clearance.
Set your number
Press SET and pick your temperature anywhere from 40 to 108°F. For frost protection, a lot of growers start around 45°F.
Place the probe
Push the probe into the soil beside the plants you care about most, at plant height, not up by the roof where it's warmer.
Check it in the morning
The display shows the temperature at your plants. The heater switched on and off by itself overnight. That's the whole routine.

Customer Reviews
I tested this heater before winter comes and it works exactly like I expected. The heat kicked on within seconds. The thermostat regulates the heater on and off, which gives me enough confidence to leave it in my greenhouse during cold weather.
This heater has been really easy to use. I basically just took it out of the box, plugged it in, and set the temperature. So far the thermostat has worked great for keeping my chick area comfortable at night. I also like that I don’t have to keep unplugging it during the day and plugging it back in at night—the temperature control handles that automatically.
This greenhouse heater is small but puts out a surprising amount of heat. I was skeptical when I first opened the box because it looked smaller than expected, but it heats up very quickly and circulates warm air throughout the room. The setup is straightforward, the metal construction feels sturdy, and the compact size saves space. It’s a solid option if you want a small heater with a thermostat.
One of my favorite things about this heater is the fan-only mode. It lets me use the unit to circulate air even when I don’t need heat, which makes it useful beyond the colder months. The airflow is well suited for smaller rooms, grow tents, and greenhouses. The digital thermostat has also been accurate in my use, and Eco mode helps manage power when full heat isn’t needed.
For the price, this works very well. It heats up quickly, the digital controller is easy to use, and the long cord is convenient. Overall, it’s simple, practical, and effective.
This is a great little heater. It gets hot in a hurry and the metal housing feels heavy and sturdy. The fan has one speed and there are two heat settings. The thermostat can be used separately to set the desired temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, and the temperature sensor responds quickly and shuts the heater off when the target temperature is reached. The cords are long enough to give plenty of flexibility for placement. Overall, it feels well built, functional, and simple to operate.
A must-have if you have chickens and/or a greenhouse. It’s very versatile, compact in size, runs with very little sound, and has easy temperature control with automatic shutoff.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from such a small heater, but I’m impressed. It puts out a lot of heat for its size and has a programmable thermostat with a probe. The fan mode is weaker, but the heating performance is very good. The small footprint makes it especially useful in a garage or workspace.
Despite its compact size, this heater puts out plenty of heat and does a great job maintaining a stable temperature for my plants. The temperature control keeps the environment consistent, and Eco mode adjusts power levels instead of running at full power all the time. The construction feels solid, the metal housing feels durable, and the fan noise is minimal. Overall, it heats quickly, runs quietly, and feels built to last.
Not only is this good for greenhouses, I’ve also been using it as a regular heater in my apartment and it works great. It feels strong, compact, and well made.
It’s a compact heater with a lot to offer. There’s a wired external temperature sensor and a built-in thermostat to keep the temperature where you need it. The compact design doesn’t take up much room, and the fan pulls air across the ceramic heating element well. It can be a little loud on high, but it’s more of a hum than anything distracting. Overall, I’m very pleased with how reliable it has been.
I was surprised by how much power this compact heater has. It heats up fast, circulates air well, and the metal construction feels sturdy. The thermostat takes a little time to learn, but the instructions are easy to understand. I especially like the compact size because it doesn’t take up much room.
My husband has been using this heater in his workspace, and it warms the area quickly. Despite its compact size, it puts out an impressive amount of heat and reaches the desired temperature fairly fast. The digital controller is easy to use, the unit feels sturdy and stable, and the fan distributes heat evenly.
It’s a great product. Good for a greenhouse, easy to use, and warms up fast. I put this in my reading room for warmth and plan to use it in my garage when winter comes. It feels stable, the size is manageable, and the noise level is below average.
Any last questions?
Questions before you order
What size greenhouse will one heater handle?
On 1500W it puts out about 5,100 BTU/hr. That's usually enough to hold frost off a twin-wall or insulated hobby greenhouse around 6×8 to 8×10 ft. Single-layer film, drafty doors and very cold nights raise the need, so use the calculator above for your exact space. Big or leaky spaces may need two.
How does the thermostat work?
Plug the heater into the included controller and set the probe where your plants sit. Press SET and pick a temperature from 40–108°F (°C works too). The controller turns the heater on when the probe reads below your number and off when it's back above it. The display shows the live reading.
Is it hard to set up?
No. Unbox it, plug the heater into the controller, plug the controller into the wall and set your number. Nothing to assemble, no fuel to buy. Most people are running in a few minutes.
Can I use it in a coop, garage or grow tent?
Yes. Customers use it in chick brooders, grow tents, garages, workshops and spare rooms. In coops and brooders, set it on a flat surface out of reach of the birds and away from loose bedding.
Is it OK to leave running overnight?
It's designed to run on the thermostat while you're away: PTC ceramic element, no exposed coil, no flame. Give it a flat, dry surface with about a foot of clearance and plug it straight into a wall outlet (or a 14-gauge or heavier cord). It's IP20, so keep it away from water and misters.
How much does it cost to run?
It only draws power while it's actually heating. Each hour of heating uses 0.8 kWh on 800W or 1.5 kWh on 1500W. Multiply by your electric rate: at 16¢ per kWh, that's about 13¢ an hour on 800W.
What if it doesn't work for me?
You have 30 days from delivery. If it isn't holding your temperature, or you're unhappy for any reason, contact us and we'll walk you through a return for a full refund.
How fast does it ship?
Shipping is free during the sale, and you'll get a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships.
